- Check carefully the advertisement
- Check if the car price is suspicious
- Check the name and the location of the sellers
If in doubt about a second hand car do more research with State road authority /Transport department's vehicle security register to check :
- Vehicle registration status
- If the vehicle was involve in an accident
- If the vehicles finance recorded against the vehicle
- If the vehicle is reported as stolen
- Car log book , was the service done , was there any repair done .
- Check the wear on the tire , this can tell you if the car hit a speed bump or was potentially involve in an accident ! A wheel alignement can fix the front wheel but there is no adjustment for the back wheel .
- Check that all fluid level are correct
- Start the engine , check the dash board to see if some light are still on , for example if the engine light stayed on it could mean there is a problem with either the Engine Controle Unit or electrical harness .
- Check around the engine for Noise .
- Check that the electrical harness is properly attached around the engine compartment , if not the car as potentially had a major repair done .
- Check along the bottom side of the car to see if there is any damage on the body .
- Go for a drive and check any unusal behavior , on a flat check if the car is pulling on the side .
- Check if the engine is not overheating .
